Journey to the Underworld

Introduction

Hello people of my freshman seminar class and those who wandered here randomly. This is a choose-your-own-adventure type game that leads you through the entirety of the ancient Greek/Roman underworld seen through the minds of various old writers, but primarily Virgil and Homer. Why are we journeying through the underworld you ask? Well, your best friend without a name has gone and got himself killed again and rather than put up with his eternal whining when your time on Earth has ended, you might as well try and rescue him. I mean, you are an ancient Greek/Roman warrior on an epic quest to save a dear friend from a premature life in the netherworld. Being the hero of this tale, you’ll obviously make it through in the end, right? It didn’t work for that Orpheus character, but you’re better than him, so you’ll win this game anyways!

But before we begin, you’ll need to stock up on equipment. Get out a pen and a piece of paper. You can carry with you five items. No, I don’t care how big they are or how much it doesn’t make sense. You have a thing for the number five so you can only have five items with you at one time. On your adventure you might pick up more items. In that case, if you want to keep the item, you must discard one of your items to make room if you already have five with you. Items labeled “one use” can only be used once (duh) and must be discarded afterword. Some items you may use repeatedly while others you may never use at all, so chose wisely. Here we go! Pick five:

-Ship

-Moly (one use)

-Pointy Sword of Awesome

-Special Honey Cakes (one use)

-Bucket of Blood (one use)

-2 Obol Coin (one use)

-Water Wings

 -Lyre

-Chew Toy (one use)

-Tragic Past (one use)

-Spelunking Equipment

-Bouquet of Red Roses

 -Intimidating Scowl

-Fire-Proof Underwear

-Self-Activating Coffee (one use)

Now that we are fully equipped for our journey, it’s almost time to start. This is how the game works. You read the story and pick from the links at the end of each page. Depending on your choice, you will go down different paths and may not even reach your goal in the end. Sometimes you will be asked to roll a die. If you don’t have any dice on you, there will be a link at the bottom of the page to an online die. So, let’s begin!
